When to travel Turkey

When is the best time to travel to Turkey? Because Turkey experiences hot summers and cold winters, the spring and fall seasons (April, May, and mid-September through mid-November) are the best time to visit.

Getting there & around

By far the fastest and easiest way to travel Turkey is to fly; there are direct flights to a variety of Turkish destinations from all major capitals and cities of the world. Various International Airlines have regular flights to Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, and Dalaman airports.

Buses. The main mode of public transportation is the local bus which gets visitors to nearly every part of the city.  There is also the tram and taxi’s which are booked via roadside rather than App.

Destination buses are usually from a central bus station.

Mini-buses go to local destinations and the 52 seaters for longer journeys.

Cost of traveling in Turkey

You should plan to spend around TRY334 ($39) per day on your vacation in Turkey, which is the average daily price based on the expenses of other visitors. Past travelers have spent, on average, TRY73 ($8.51) on meals for one day and TRY22 ($2.54) on local transportation to travel Turkey.

My expenses range from $20 -$30 per day, excluding entertainment and activities.

Accommodation in Turkey

The average rent in Antalya for a one-bedroom apartment in the city centre is approximately $167 per month, and utilities cost around $40 a month.

Other costs will be around $190 including markets, transportation, restaurants, and sports and leisure for one person. When I first arrived, I rented a hotel room at the Turunc Hotel in Muralpasa, near the centre of Antalya for a cost of 8.70 UK through Airbnb.

There is a tram station 1-minute walk, and many shops, restaurants, and routes via walking to shopping mall, old town etc.

The room was very clean, hot and cold water, very modern, not too big but comfortable to stay in, wifi, tv, desk.

When I visited Beldibi, within the Kemer province, I stayed in the Belsun Hotel, which was about 15km by bus, every 10-15 minutes to Kemer, a cost of only 8 Lira from Kemer and was ideal for a very peaceful vacation.

Walking distance to the beach and scenic views of the mountains behind within eyesight.

The cost was 1650 Lira – $166 for two weeks, which had a pool, dining area with FREE breakfast, lounge, and all modern appliances.

You can also get the bus to Antalya for only 18 Lira:)

Food & drink in travel Turkey

Though based on lamb and mutton, Turkish cuisine includes beef and chicken (no pork, of course) and all sorts of seafood.

The most common preparations are roasting and grilling, which produce the famous Turkish kebaps, including döner kebap, the national dish, and köfte, the workingman’s favorite.

The pastry is also a big hit in Turkey, especially for a quick snack or breakfast. I particularly loved the Borek, like Cheese/Pasta slices cold, with a Char ( Turkish tea ).

Health & safety in travel Turkey

As a rule, travel to Turkey is safe for tourism. The country remains one of the most popular destinations around the globe. … The country’s most popular tourist destinations, including Antalya, Cappadocia, and Istanbul, are generally safe. Nevertheless, travelers still need to remain vigilant.

Remember prevention is always the best medicine, heatstroke, and cutting yourself on sharp coral. whether it be in the sea or on the beaches must be taken into consideration and a lot of the beaches are pebbly with large boulders/stones..

Turkey is a country with 4 seasons, so wrap up on a winter’s night as it can rather chilly..

Many pharmacists don’t speak English and tend to possibly lose in translation, what your actual ailment is. Tip: Google translates any medicines brand and finds out the nature of the treatment.

Arrival at Antalya Airport

Well flying into this paradise, the view was good, have your camera ready if you can and near a window seat, remember though, airlines are now not keen on cameras as they are connected to smartphones and frequency, so they may tell you to put them away.

We flew from KL Malaysia to Antalya and got a taxi costing 50 Lira to the centre. No problems whatsoever apart from the covid restrictions at the time.

On arrival, I was NOT asked to show my return ticket, and straight forward for a 3 -month on the arrival visa stamp.

Welcome to travel Turkey! At the present time, June 2021, the exchange rate for the dollar/pound is extremely high. Even higher at 15/12/2021 19 Lira to the pound pushing up inflation.

Tip: Always be humble rather than have a bulldog approach, you’re in their country! The laws you know, don’t exist at times in some of the world’s countries..

Alcohol: Alcohol is only permitted in certain areas, as it’s a Muslim country. However, it’s easily found in supermarkets.

Airport: Arriving passengers must fill in an immigration form and have a passport that has a six-month expiry date left.

Currency: The LIRA is a convertible currency in Turkey, they will also accept dollars.

Emergency Telephone numbers: Ambulance 192, Coast Guard 191, Fire 118, and Police 119
