20 Travel Rules to Live By

Table Of Contents:

We are once a nomad in our pre-historic centuries and wandering around this new world with no fear and full of curiousness. This enabled us to learn and progress to a new life in every generation, even then though they will have had rule to live by, possibly life-saving rules.

Travelling makes us more human and learn to be kind to one another in these uncertain times but we all need travel rules to start our new travel path. So here are 20 travel rules we live by.

Nowadays, we are living in a small shell and call ourselves independent travellers or travel people. But the whole truth is, once we start to travel over the world, we can taste the real independence through our travel rules and find out who we are. There are no defined travel rules, but we need to consider some factors to avoid unpleasant experiences during travel trips and excursions.

While being a traveler, we need to see through things and be prepared for the safety of your properties. Minding all these things here, we present 20 best travel rules that every traveler should follow and live by.

20 Travel Rules And Ideas

1. First things First, have travel insurance!

Having travel insurance is the best way to ensure safety. In this unpredictable world, we don’t know what’s going to happen in the journey; something may damage your property or maybe slight injuries. It’s one of the vital travel rules, which is so helpful. We use this company and swear by them! Saved me a few times:) Link

2. Snap a Picture of Your Valuables

Taking a picture of your valuables is useful; you can use it as a checklist to confirm that you don’t leave anything before your return. If any of your luggage went missing or was stolen, you could use the picture to make a complaint and use it as evidence for your claim. Remembering travel rules are there for a reason. To help, not to hinder, and make your traveling journey a peaceful and relaxing travel occasion.

3. Pack As Light As You Can

It’s one of my primary travel ideas; you are going for a relaxing tour, not for an intense weight lifting competition. Pack the only essential things that you really want. Not everything you carry is going to be useful to you. It’s going to draw your stamina and time. Carry only necessary things like your clothes, currency, cards, water, medicine, gadgets, phone, and camera. If you feel any other item more necessary, carry them.

Tip 1. Roll things up and put them in your travel case, saves on creasing and you get more in your case.

Tip 2. Put socks and underpants, toiletries inside shoe spaces.

Tip 3. Buy things while you are there instead of taking them with you. Memories! The new skirt you bought from the Maldives, you may get a compliment from family and friends, ” that looks nice” yeah I bought it in the Maldives, wink, wink!

4. Look For Discounts And Rewards

Travel to a new place is exciting, but don’t spend money blindly; use as much on offers as you can. Ask for discounts if you are going to use a service from a provider if you are going to use it for a particular time.

Try to get discounts from hotels, restaurants, worldwide Groupon, tourism offices use travel credit cards and specific services to get rewards that can be useful in your tour. Set these kinda travel rules to yourself to limit expenses. Why not look after a pet or house for FREE accommodation

5. Learn To Interact With Locals
Two Iranian Robinson Crusoes Living On The Beach

You don’t need to master all the local tongue wherever you go, just learn how to interact with them with simple words and activities. Learn how to ask for routes, foods, essentials, and learn to say “thank you,” “hi,” how are you” and others.

Even if they can’t understand your tongue but can understand your smile and needs, it does go a long way and the locals love it that you’re a caring learning person. It has opened many doors for us traveling and I’m fluent in ” how are you” in many languages. one of my first travel rules

6. Always Be Pre-planned

Preplanning plays a significant part in touring. Of course, you will explore a new land; you have to cover many more areas. So need to have a nearly perfect plan to cover all those areas within a particular time. Your plan does not need to be accurate, but having a plan can help you move further. This is one of the worldwide firms we use for our trip excursions from the norm. GetYourGuide or Find out what’s hot and what’s not at Tripadvisor

We were caught out on not pre-planning for the Maldives as we had no return ticket, not a pleasant experince when your tired after a long flight and told you can’t come in without one. ( We had to buy one online in the airport. )

7. Be Flexible With Your Plans

As we said before, you need to have a plan, but that does not need to be accurate. Anything can be acquired on your plan, you may need to stay a little while in a specific place, maybe the weather cannot be so friendly, or any factor can impact your plan. You have to modify it on the spot to keep your tour pleasant.

8. Money Matters

When listing out travel rules, having an eye on the money you have, is a primary rule that can’t be ignored. Limit your unwanted expenses while touring, and always check twice that you have extra money physically or digitally.

Try to use fee-free ATM cards, and always try to keep different types of currencies, you can use and convert in the current environment. If you have a chance to use a shared economy, use it without hesitation. We always carry two credit cards just in case one gets lost or even blocked. It does happen.

Tip: Two credit cards a must and kept separate, change money and not at the last moment, keep a stash just in case and separate from your cards. Have you an online account and telephone banking already set up?

We also use Transferwise as our main card for debit transactions as very low exchange rates, saved us hundreds:)

9. Don’t Forget to Live the Moments

You are going for a journey, not for a race. You may face a wonder or frustrating hurdles, but journey is very important. Travel slowly and enjoy each and every moment. It’s not sure that you can visit that place again, so enjoy the moments slowly. Traveling and touring is not just moving from place to another location. You have to experience the area and fulfill the reason why you are there.

10. Don’t Hesitate To Try New!

You are in a different place to feel the difference, and try something different and new. Without doing something different, that travel was meaningless. Be the man/woman who tried everything in the world at least once. Don’t hesitate to do when you have a chance to do something new like bungee jumping, the local traditional dance, climbing and so. Be a free soul, there is no one to judge you.

11. Try New Food Recipes

First of all, we are working, living, and doing everything for food, so try different recipes around your travel, people eating to live. Don’t say “no” to nothing is my personal, and must follow travel ideas. Try different recipes, and flavors of foods. Wherever you see a new food item, in a road-side stall, or in a restaurant, try them at least once. But before consuming the street-side foods, have an eye on how hygienically they were prepared.

12. Say Cheese

The camera is your third eye, and the memory card is your second brain storage. Use them in your travels.

Afterward, when you complete your trip and share your experience with others; you can only explain and express what you visualize with your eyes. But cameras can bring the visualizations to life, and let others see what you feel. Don’t forget to bring the cam with you while traveling. Take pictures with the people you made a friendship while you travel.

13. Have Reusable Water Bottles

Bring a reusable water bottle with you. If you are going to a forest or an abandoned area, it will help you when there are no shops around you. You can refill them when you found water. Don’t forget to tick these travel ideas on your checklist. Also, you’re helping the planet, plastic approximately takes 450 years to decompose in a landfill

14. Be a Medic For Your Own

While traveling, you might not always have someone to take care of you, and don’t expect so. Fulfill your own medical needs on your own. Always carry a basic level medical kit with you and try watching YouTube videos about the basic safety measures, and emergency hacks. What’s more, just in case of the worst ailments/accidents have a No Brainer ( Insurance )

15.  Bring Music With You

If you are traveling alone, music can be your best partner. Music has the power to make us forget the tired of traveling bring us to the fourth dimension. Have your favorite music with you.

16. Travel Alone if you can

If you get a chance to live away from where you belong, while you’re traveling, use it. As first, we discussed, we can find our true selves while we travel alone and live somewhere other than a known neighborhood, we make new friends around us, gain confidence, which will fill you with positive charisma.

17. Explore New Paths

The real meaning of being a traveler is exploring something new. If we travel with the crowd and follow the rules, of course, you come here for the first time, but you’ve not found something new, I don’t mean go to restricted areas. There are many places still that people haven’t trailed yet, even at famous tourist spots, look for the unexpected.

There’s a jungle our their
18. Explore Without Maps

Have a map with you or use Google maps to explore. However, if you want to try something different and more interesting, go with the flow. Ask the locals about the route that will give you the confidence to survive, even in unfamiliar situations. I always remember the skyline of where I’m before setting off and obviously have some info written in the local language just in case.

19. Contact Local Tourist Office

No one will know better about the place than the local tourism offices. They don’t refuse to give the information that you want and what’s more they are the first people any hotel, tour, business locally will get in touch with offers and new trips etc.

20. Make Your Own Travel Rules

We travel somewhere to have fun. So if we need it, we can define our own travel rules. In that way, we can learn new things.
